It's been awhile since we've had a good update, so here it is!

We're having a great summer. Alex has been playing lots of baseball and is getting much better at it. He even won the game ball at one of the games.

Alfred is still working his butt off, I'm having fun with the kids and Mary Kay, and the kids continue to grow at what ought to be an illegal pace. My nephew Nick leaves on his mission in August. Jakob was born on Friday, 5/22/2009, at 11:03 PM, weighing 8 lbs., 1 oz., and is 21 1/4 in. long. We're all home now and trying to feel a little bit normal again. Enjoy the pics!

It's the first day of SPRING BREAK here in good old LP, and we have snow!!! And sinus infections! What's up with that? I suppose that's just Indiana for ya.

Alex started baseball practice last week. He's really excited about it. So far he likes it better than soccer, but we'll see if he feels the same once his games start next month.

Andy is getting around pretty well now. He can stand on his own now, and we expect to see him take his first steps at any second. Babyhood sure doesn't last long.

This is the second week in a row that Alfred has had to go to NYC. Sure miss you, baby!

Have you ever seen that show "Make Room For Baby" that they have on the Discovery Health Channel? They have this little segment on there called Right 2 Rant. Whoever is having major issues on the show is given the R2R card and allowed 30 seconds in front of the camera to rant. Today I'm going to exercise my right to rant and then pass on the R2R card to someone else.

All day yesterday my nose was all stuffed up. Yuck! And I couldn't get any rest because every time I put Thing 2 down for a nap he would only sleep for about 15-20 minutes. I thought this was great because it would mean that he might actually sleep through the night since he didn't have a decent nap during the day. Wrong! I put him down in his crib at 9:30 PM. By 10, WAH! YOU LEFT ME ALONE IN MY CRIB!!! Fine, fine. I wasn't really ready to go to bed myself just yet. At 11, I put him down again and went to bed myself. By 11:15, WAH! YOU LEFT ME ALONE IN MY CRIB AGAIN!!! SHAME ON YOU! NOW YOU HAVE TO TAKE ME TO BED WITH YOU IF YOU WANT ME TO GO TO SLEEP AT ALL!!! WAH! After that, every time I was almost asleep, WAH! YOU'RE NOT CUDDLING WITH ME! WAH! I WANT A DRINK! WAH!!! THESE COVERS ARE TOO HOT! WAH! And if that wasn't enough, by 5 AM, my cell phone starts crying as well! WAH! THERE'S A 2-HOUR SCHOOL DELAY! And then again about 15 minutes before my alarm goes off: WAH!!! SCHOOL IS CLOSED TODAY. WAAAAHHHHH!!!!!! And of course after the last text came through, my darling little whiner is all smiles and ready for breakfast. Can't wait to do it again tonight.

On the upside, my sinuses are clearer this morning. At least until I'm done trying to find the car under all our new snow, I'm hoping for a better day.

Dread Pirate Andreas

Last week, Alex dressed Andy up like a cute little pirate, but Alfred was gone at the time and had the digital camera with him. So when he got home, we dressed him up again for your viewing pleasure. Well, it turns out that Alfred is incapable of producing a girl. Baby Harbich #3 is another boy! We've decided to name this one Jakob, but we haven't decided on a middle name yet. Wish us luck!

Christmas Morning

Ah, Christmas morning... I swear the boys were lucky to get presents at all this year, with all the threats about calling Santa and telling on Alex for not eating his food and on Andy for refusing to admit he knows what "no" means. But as it was Andy's first Christmas, and as Alex was getting a pretty awesome gift, I was way too excited to call it off. So here's the proof that I'm not really a grinch after all.

I've been bad. Sorry about that. There really hasn't been much to post on here. While we had fun visiting the family out in California, we didn't get many pictures. I'll post a few, though.

So I'm 17 weeks along now with Baby Harbich #3, and so far all is well. So far the most difficult part of being pregnant while caring for another infant is trying to not hurt or kill myself or Andy out on the ice. Every trip out to the car is an adventure. I'd ask Alfred to go shovel or at least throw down some salt on the ice, but he's been having too much fun inhaling cheese in Wisconsin this week.

After another whole month of nothing newsworthy to post here, I finally have something BIG. Our little Andreas will be getting a very special gift for his first birthday... a baby brother or sister!!! Yes, Baby Harbich #3 is on the way. And we're ALL very excited. When we asked Alex if he wanted another baby brother or a baby sister this time, he said, "I'll try a sister." So I guess if it turns out that it's a girl and he doesn't like her much, he'll put in an order for another baby brother.

May 22, 2009 is the due date, and Andy's birthday is May 23. So it'll be very close. I'm a little overwhelmed thinking about the next few months and wondering how hard it will be to be getting bigger and bigger while trying to lug around a very heavy infant. It's a good thing Alex is happy about this. He's such a good helper already.

On Sunday, we had a busy day at church. Andy had his blessing during sacrament meeting, and Alex was baptized after the regular block of meetings. It was a triple baptism as his cousin Kyle and friend Laken were baptized as well. It all went very well, and we're so proud of our sweet boys. Enjoy the pictures!

My Newborn Vampires

This goes out to all you Twilight fans out there. (And if you haven't read the Twilight series, you don't know what you're missing!!!)

My Young Women are all fans, so this was just priceless. This picture was taken at a combined activity last Friday night. For some reason, they feel they have to make goofy faces in just about every single picture they take. And when this one came out with "red eye" in pretty much every single one of them, I really had to laugh because they look like a bunch of newborn vampires. Check it out! And by the way... I just finished reading "Breaking Dawn" and was not disappointed. Stephenie Meyer delivered a beautiful ending to Bella's story. Can't wait for the Twilight movie coming out this December!!!

A Lack of News

So my Katie wants some news as it has been over a month since my last post. Alas, I do not have much to add here as not much is going on. Alex graduated from his Guppy swim class and will be enrolling in the minnow class the next time we can afford it. Alfred had to spend a few days working up in Madison, Wisconsin a couple weeks ago and decided to take us with him. There wasn't much we could do aside from hanging out at the hotel pool and laughing at the names of some of the cheese shops and casinos we saw from the road. So here are a few pictures of that:

Also, my niece Tammy got a great shot of Andy last Friday night. I don't know how she does it. She has this talent of catching people making the weirdest expressions. She hit gold with this one:

A little background on that last one... We had our ward water fight on July 5, and Alex was really cold by the time it was over. He found a bucket that had surprisingly warm water in it, and decided to warm himself up in there. That is, until Brother Phillips told him it was so warm because he'd peed in it. It was a joke of course, but Alex took it seriously and was grossed out for quite awhile before we realized it and let him know that he wasn't saturated in urine after all. Poor kid...

It's been five weeks since our little peanut joined our family, and it's been heavenly. He sleeps well at night, eats like a little piggy, and is putting on plenty of chubs. Andy's big brother Alex is being a big help and giving him plenty of lovin'. We've taken to calling them Thing One and Thing Two. Enjoy the new picture!

Our new addition, Andreas Benjamin Harbich, was born today, May 23, 2008, at 3:31 PM CDT. He weighs 8 lbs., 10 oz., and is 21 inches long. Mother and baby are doing great!

Alex the Soccer Star and Many Thanks

It's been fun, but Alex's soccer season is almost over. For those of you who wanted to see him in his soccer gear, here it is...

We signed him up for a recreational team rather than a competitive team because he's never been on a team before, and we wanted him to have fun no matter what. As much fun as it has been for him, he's decided that soccer is not really his thing and would prefer to go back to taking swimming classes instead. I'm actually very happy about this as it will mean no more running around NW Indiana on the weekends.

On another completely unrelated note, I'd like to thank the Young Women at church who threw such a nice surprise baby shower for me last night. I spent most of my night afterwards inhaling the scent of all the new baby clothes and supplies and wishing so hard that this little guy would decide to make his entrance into the world right NOW! We've changed his name, by the way, to Andreas Benjamin Harbich. Any time now, Andy Pie!

Have you ever noticed that when you give a little tot a new toy still in its box that he seems more interested in the box than the toy? I remember slapping myself in the forehead a few times when trying to get my son interested in this great new toy I'd gotten for him, but all he cared about was how many things he could do with the great big box it came in. Mind you, that was 5-6 years ago. Since that time, he's learned to appreciate the fun-filled object inside the box.

With our kitchen remodel done, I've been busy unpacking boxes and putting things where they belong in the kitchen. While I've been thus engaged, my son has rediscovered his love of big boxes. One day, after emptying a few, my son took interest in one box in particular and asked if he could have it for his reading box. I told him I didn't mind, but that he might not be able to see to read very well in there. That was no deterrent, of course. He'd just move the box under a lamp.

When Alfred came home and saw his son's cool new hideout, he made it official and wrote on it, "Alexander's private reading box. Do NOT disturb." Alex was very appreciative of this gesture. Soon after, he decided he could use this box to do some writing, too. So he picked up the same marker his daddy used and wrote on another side, "Alex's privet wrighting box. Do not disterb!!!" After Alfred and I had stuck our noses in there a few times to see what he was up to, he got a little annoyed and wrote on another side, "Alexander's secret box. With an eye." And then he drew a big eye on it so that there would be no doubt in our minds that he was watching us when we were snooping on him. It still makes me laugh to think that he actually believes this would stop us. Plus it's just too cute.

I'll be so sad when he stops taking interest in things like this...

Except for a little bit of moulding and threshold work, we are finally DONE with out kitchen remodel!!! Yippee!

I can't tell you what a relief it is to finally have running water in there. The things we take for granted! And I just love all the new stuff. The floor is so much easier to clean, the cabinets are so much more functional than our old ones, the built-in dishwasher is so much easier to handle than the portable one, and the counter top is gorgeous! It's nice to finally have a stainless steel sink, too. See pictures below!

Now that this is behind us, I can start putting my house back together. With my due date only six weeks away, I'm getting a little nervous that we're nowhere near ready for this little guy!

Spring has finally sprung! We had our first day of decent spring weather yesterday, so we kicked Alex out of the house to play outside for the day. He and his friend Clara had fun decorating our backyard for spring. Enjoy!

Kitchen Remodel

We're currently in the process of remodeling our kitchen. I guess my mother got sick of me whining about my awful floor, the malfunctioning portable dishwasher, and the difficulty of accessing things in my cabinets. Anyway, she insisted on paying for me to get it done before the baby is born. So for the last few weeks, we've been living in a major mess, but we're starting to like the results.

Before we started the remodel, we had parquet flooring in there. It was icky bad to have that kind of floor in the kitchen. Don't get me wrong: I like parquet. It's just not good to have a wood floor of any kind in a room that frequently has wet messes. It was beautiful when we first moved in, but after a few moppings (with the proper wood floor cleaner), dishwasher leaks, food spills, and five winters of tracking in salt from the outside, it was warped, discolored, and downright scary. So we decided to take it up entirely and put down ceramic tile instead.

We went to Ikea for our cabinets. We love how functional they are. We could never find anything in our old cabinets because in order to get to some things we had to remove all the contents (which took forever). The new base cabinets have a whole lot of pull-out storage, and we mounted the wall cabinets lower than the old ones were, so now I can reach most of the contents without having to risk my life by climbing onto the counter top.

Alas, our sink is back-ordered, and we can't get our new counter-top until it arrives because the contractor needs the interior sink dimensions first. We can't get our new dishwasher installed either until we get the plumbing for our sink done. So for the moment, we are without running water in the kitchen. It's been a bit of a pain, but hopefully it will all be over soon.

For those of you who don't know, my nephew Matt and his wife Randi were expecting their first baby this June. She was born yesterday, 12 weeks premature, after possibly having a stroke in utero. She was named Kayla Grace and passed away early this morning.

This is a very hard time for everyone in the family. Prayers for Matt and Randi would be greatly appreciated.

So I decided that our old website was just a little too difficult to keep up-to-date, and I'm hoping that blogging will be a little bit easier. With our little family expanding, it's about time we came up with a better way to keep our friends and family informed. So welcome to our new blog!

Things are going pretty well for us lately, even though we're currently living in an ice box. As cold as it's been here, though, it could definitely be worse. *Shivers at the thought of Minnesota and Mongolia*

Alfred finished with the postal project he was doing for ESS back in September, and since then, he's been able to spend more time at home. It's been great having him around more. Things will pick back up in Spring, though, so we're relishing every moment.

Alex is definitely growing before our eyes. And he's such a little smarty. He's managed to stay on the honor roll at school all year thus far. He's learning to play the piano and also taking swim classes a couple days a week. This Spring he'll be starting soccer, and he can't wait. So he is busy, busy.

I (Michelle) am trying to take it easy in my last trimester. The newest Harbich (Andrew Benjamin) is due to be born May 20, and he's already having fun trying to keep me up at night. But we've wanted this for so long that I can't help but be happy, even at 3 AM, when he's kicking me in sensitive spots and making me jump. Other than that, I'm still working with the Young Women at church and having fun with it. They're a great bunch of girls.
